Honeymoon cruise?

Can you answer theewokprincess’s question about Cruises?:

My beau and I are trying to decide where to go on our honeymoon. The subject of going on a cruise came up, and we both like that idea.

A few questions:
~What line should we take?
~Have you been on a cruise before? If so, where did you go?
~Clothing: casual, formal, or somewhere in between?
~Was it “all-inclusive?” Did you have to pay for other things?
~Was it worth the money?
~What kind of room did you stay in?
~Would you go again?

Thank you in advance!

Cruises Feedback: I don’t know what type of weather cruise your looking for, but i will always suggest winter cruises.. It give you a chance to never be out of touch with each other, because it will be so brisk, you going to want to hold each other, to stay warm, while your standing on the deck of some nice cruise ship. Alaska cruise would be the best during the winter, and it will be cheaper..

Cruises Feedback: i did a 5 year anniversary trip with my now x husband. we looked into cruises and found that it would be cheaper to just do an all inclusive trip to an island we wanted to go to. at that time, we did not find a cruise that covered everything 100% nor a cruise that spent enough time in the locations we wanted to see….
so, we chose Negril, Jamaica and stayed at the resort by Sandels resorts. It was perfect!!! EVERYTHING was included even the tip…. we spent $2400 for 2 people 5 nights 6 days, it also included airfare and hotel to airport and vise-versa transportation. everything at the resort was included… alcohol, food ( 24 hrs a day ), both motorized and non-motorized watersports, waiters and staff waiting on you hand and foot… we went to dinner one night, drank a bottle of wine… got a second bottle, decided to take a walk on the beach, when we got back to the room our second bottle was waiting for us… on ice!!! it was excellent service and very romantic….
    p.s.
we took $500 in spending money and still had 1/2 when it was time to leave!!!

Cruises Feedback: My husband and I took a cruise for our honeymoon last November. It was so nice we are going on another cruise in 4 weeks.
    We used Carnival Cruiseline
We paid about $700.00 (prices vary depending on the time of year it is…cheaper to cruise after hurrican season…in the fall)
we live in Georgia, so it was cheaper for us to drive to Port Canavaral in Orlando(5 hour drive) we went to the Bahamas it was a 4 day cruise, we stopped in Freeport and Nassua. It was beautiful, but not enough time on a cruise
we stayed in a standard room, they come with queen size bed the bathroom is a okay size, the food was GREAT!!! I was really surprised
the only thing you have to pay for is your alcohol, but everything else is included
this year we are doing the 7 -day Western Caribbean Cruise:from Miami to Costa Mayo, Mexico to Ochos Rios, Jamaica, the cost was alittle more $1300.
Go…there is nothing like it and the shopping on these islands are wonderful

Cruises Feedback: I love cruises, tho I’ve never been on a honeymoon on one, I’ve met couples who were. To answer your questions:
What line? Princess, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are good lines, but for a little more intimacy you might opt for Norwegian.
Where to go? Where do you live? Mexican ports on the west coast are great, as is the any port in the Western/Southern Caribbean. Some like the Eastern Caribbean, but I think it’s too much like being in the US.
Clothing? Casual, Shorts, capris, pants, etc. You can’t wear shorts in the formal dining rooms and a couple of nights you’ll need formal/smi-formal wear (for captain’s cocktail party & dinner). But if you choose not to do those or to eat in the formal dining rooms, you can get by with casual wear.
All-inclusive? No, all your meals and most activities on the ship are included; but drinks (alcohol, sodas, bottled water) are charged. You also have to be for beauty/spa service, gambling, bingo and guided shore excursions.
Worth the money? Definitely, you can find ways to get around a lot of the fees (except for the alcohol), tho we did that too by packing our own liquor, and going onshore on your own..as soon as you get off the ship there will be cabs and booths set up offering you all kinds of activities at about half the price the ship does.
Rooms? I’ve stayed in inside cabins and cabins with balconies, and I have to say the Balconied cabins are the way to go. You pay a little bit more, but I loved being able to sit outside in private.
Repeat trips? Did and would again! Where else can you pay anywhere from $299 and up for a vacation and visit 3-4 different places?
If you tell your travel agent or the cruise line (if arranging the trip yourself) it’s a honeymoon cruise, they’ll help you arrange it so you have a lot more privacy!

Cruises Feedback: I’ve been on two cruises - One to Hawaii which was our honeymoon cruise (flew to Hawaii and cruised the islands for a week) and one to Alaska (flew to Seattle and then cruised to Juneau, Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Ketchikan and Victoria BC).

Hawaii - Norwegian Cruise Lines - freestyle cruising
Enjoyed the cruise, and took several excursions. Freestyle cruising means no set dining time, food was great. They did have a couple “formal nights” but we chose not to dress up. We mainly took casual clothing for the excursions, and wore nice slacks and shirt to dinner. It was all-inclusive, except if you wanted to buy anything, go on excursions, or eat at one of the specialty restaurants - and then you only paid $10 extra per person to dine there. Loved Hawaii, didn’t want to leave! We stayed in a room with a balcony; I really liked standing out there watching the ship move through the water, watching the whales in the water. We went it early February, and the weather was perfect, no humidity, no bugs! I would go again.

    Alaska - Holland America Cruise
Enjoyed the cruise immensely. Had a set dining time, so we ate with the same people except the nights we were off the ship for an excursion, or when we ate in the specialty restaurant. Food was excellent, both at the regular restaurant and the specialty one. We wore slacks and shirts for dinner and we had two formal nights where we dressed in our fancy clothing for dinner. Knowing we were going to eat in the specialty restaurant, I also took a nicer outfit (just not formal) to wear at that restaurant. Jeans and shirts for the excursions. Loved Alaska it’s so beautiful! We stayed in a room with a balcony again (I was spoiled from Hawaii). We went in August, so it wasn’t REALLY cold, didn’t need a jacket at all, except 1 day when it rained. Everything was all-inclusive, again, except the specialty restaurant, the excursions, and anything you wanted to buy. I would go again.

    Hope this helps!

Cruises Feedback: We took Princess, brother just did one on Norwegen
We did 12 days in the mediteranian. (so did my brother)
Clothing is in between. One formal dinner night on the trip(suit-dress) mostly shorts or kakis for me. T-shirts and polo shirts covers most of it. Some of the stops might recommend more conservative(not offensive to Muslim or Vatican eyes) dress.
We had a Partial view cabin, behind the life boats. Window is nice but not required. I’m sure the balcony’s were wonderful. if you have the cash.
Yes I would go again but I’d rather just take a land tour. The short stops in the visited places was the frustrating part to me.

    As for money stuff…….
Awsome experience. The cruise itsself is just so so. It’s not bad and you wake up each day in a new place so that rocks but you only get at the most 12 hours in each city, more like 8.
The cruise is one rip off after another but if you know that going in then its ok. You pay “one price” for the food and room and services but you’ll pay extra for: soda, alcoholic beverages, capacino. Diner is covered if you do it in the dining room or buffet but they have pay restaurants aboard and can “encourge” you to go to them with some lousy meals in the dining room. The shows on board are little better than highschool musicals and most things you really would like to do are pay services. There is a great spa, thats extra. A make your own crafts class, extra(and it looked lame). Arcade, bring quarters. Also, the drinks etc. are not cheap. On the level of $5 beers 6.50 for mixed drinks. Another scam to avoid is tipping. They charge $10/person per day quietly added to your bill unless you tell them to remove it before the end of the cruise. Most of the world tips about 10%. The cruise adds 18% to your bill everytime.
One of my favorite scams was the tours. We stopped in Marsaille(sp) France and there you are not allowed to walk out in the ship yard. A shuttle bus cost like 10 each way. Each person. It was raining so we skipped that city but it’s pay or stay aboard in a few of the stops. The tours arranged by the ship are extra cost and not cheap. Our tour of pompei and Mount Vesuvious was like $75 each. Loved the mountain but then they took us to a Cameo Shop for a “bathroom break”. 45 minutes there and then we hardly had time to rush through pompei skipping many of the sights there. In Egypt my brother was taken to a shop on his tour and did not get enough time at the pyramids. That has to suck.

Cruises Feedback: My fiance and I just booked our honeymoon cruise with Royal Caribbean. It goes to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Egypt. We got stuck with a interior room because we started looking into the cruises too late. (It is usually good to look as far in advance as you can because rooms fill up quick) We are also going on a cruise in November to Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Haiti. On that cruise we got a balcony room (which I recommend).

Depending on what kind of cruise or honeymoon you want, clothing can vary. If you plan on doing any kind of excursions (sight seeing and whatnot) you should bring casual clothes and sneakers. Royal Caribbean usually has a couple of fancy dinners, so you should bring some nice clothes.

Usually food is included. You may have to pay for soda and you definitely have to pay for alcohol. If you are a big soda drinker, you can get a soda card (unlimited soda) for a certain amount of money. Excursions are not included, they range in price.

    Hope this helped. Good luck!

Cruises Feedback: Well I was much younger when we went on a cruise but let me see if i can recall the details..

    1. We took Carnival.. 4 days to Catalina Island and Ensanada mexico
    2. See above
    3. I don’t remember paying for any food. The only things we had to pay for was alcohol if ordered from a bar other than dinner, or the arcade games.
    4. I don’t know how much my parents paid but I had a great time.
    5. Stayed in one of the rooms in the bottom of the ship.. no windows.. very loud toilet.
    6. Yes most definetly would go again.. i’m trying to talk my fiance into taking a cruise honeymoon.

Edit: Ok so I forgot the question about clothing. It was all casual except for 1 formal night at dinner. Depending on where you are going and what time of year, pack moderately warm or cold clothes.. again depending on where you are going.
